Types of Membership

Types of Membership

Student
Student membership is available to all registered Students in an AIQS accredited degree or recognised TAFE course.

Technician
Technician membership is provided for:

  • persons who have obtained TAFE diplomas from recognised courses who intend making a career in Quantity Surveying OR
  • persons with diplomas in Quantity Surveying and some practical experience.

Probationer
Probationer membership is provided for:

  • Graduates who have obtained Approved Academic Qualifications who intend taking the Assessment of Professional Competence.
  • Corporate members of Recognised Institutes of Quantity Surveyors obtaining Practical Experience.
  • Mature persons with extensive practical experience.

Affiliate
Affiliate membership is intended for:

  • Technician members who have gained the required Practical Experience.
  • Persons with Approved Academic Qualifications currently unable to complete the Assessment of Professional Competence (no time limit applied in this grade).
  • Non-Quantity Surveying Graduates working as Quantity Surveyors
  • Persons with significant Practical Experience whose admission will further the aims of the Institute.

Associate
Associate membership is available to those with:

  • appropriate degrees and who have proceeded through Probationer grade completing the Assessment of Professional Competence Diary/Log and Interview
  • eligible for Mature Age Entry (minimum age of 45 years with extensive quantity surveying approved experience)

They are entitled to use the postnominals AAIQS and may hold any office in the Institute.

Fellow
Fellowship is a senior grade of membership created to recognise commitment and service to the Institute and the profession of Quantity Surveying. Examples include professionalism in practice, the training, teaching or examination of students, engaging in public or community activities, or serving on committees set up by industry or government as well as service within the Institute.

The must have attained the minimum age of 35 years and been a corporate member in good standing for not less than 10 years. They are entitled to use the post nominals FAIQS. Fellow is the highest level of professional recognition available.

Retired
Retired grades have been created for Fellows, Associates or Affiliate members who have reached the end of their working careers in quantity surveying and have bona fide ceased full time remunerative employment.
