| What is a Student
Member?
The only
qualifications you need to be a respected professional
Quantity Surveyor/Construction Economist in Australia are
an AIQS accredited degree and AIQS membership.
As a future
professional Quantity Surveyor (Construction Economist,
Construction Cost Consultant or Construction Project
Manager), student membership and later full membership of
the AIQS will prove a valuable asset for your studies and
career growth in Australia and the region.
AIQS
student membership identifies you to future QS employers
and others as a person committed to the highest standards
and best practice of the QS profession.
Membership
of a dedicated professional Institute such as the AIQS
means that you will not be competing for service with
students and members from other professions or
disciplines. Your priorities are our priorities and they
will not take second place to other professionals with
other agendas.
Because the
AIQS serves only the QS/Construction Economics profession,
students on courses where they do not select a
QS/Construction Economics stream until year 2 will need to
wait until then to apply for AIQS student membership.
Those on dedicated QS courses may be granted membership in
their first year.
INTERNATIONAL
RECOGNITION OF THE
AIQS
The
AIQS is recognised around the world and besides Australia our members are
employed in: Bahrain, Brunei, Canada, China, East Africa, Fiji, Germany, Guam,
Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mauritius, New Zealand,
Papua New Guinea, Poland, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, South Africa,
Sri Lanka, Qatar, Oman, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Philippines, United Arab
Emirates, UK, USA, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
The accreditation of AIQS
members by the International Cost Engineering Council (ICEC) means AIQS
membership is recognised by some 50 countries and AIQS members with ICEC
accreditation will find employment in the USA far easier. Accredited members
can use the post nominals ICECA after their AIQS post nominals.
Additionally, the AIQS has
membership reciprocity agreements with the:
-
Royal Institution of
Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
-
Singapore Institute of
Surveyors & Valuers (SISV)
-
New Zealand Institute of
Quantity Surveyors (NZIQS)
-
Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS)
-
Association of South African Quantity Surveyors
(ASAQS)
Internationally, the AIQS has
taken a leading role in establishing the Pacific Association of Quantity
Surveyors (PAQS) which is developing into the major regional body to recognise
and certify professional QS practice in member countries.
The AIQS believes that practicing overseas
members should always be members of their local national QS Institute.
