Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) is a professional standards body.  Through its leadership, standards and code of ethics, it ensures that practicing Quantity Surveyors are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of professional excellence.

AIQS is an organisation with Chapters and Divisions in all States and Territories. It also has a strong overseas membership and is the Australian peak body to the International Cost Engineering Council (ICEC) and Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS).

As a Quantity Surveyor is an important member of the building and construction team, AIQS is an active participant in all the industry major forums and lobby groups.

AIQS plays an important role in industry research through the collection of cost data and the publishing of the Current Construction Costs. It also publishes,The Australian Standard Method of Measurement of Building Works (6th Edition) and cooperates with tertiary institutions on research programs.

AIQS has formal links a range of organisations including International Cost Engineering Council (ICEC), Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS), Australian Construction Industry Forum (ACIF), Australasian BIM Advisory Board (ABAB), BMF Industry Forum, NATSPEC and relationships with other overseas Quantity Surveying Associations.

AIQS's primary functions are to:

  • ensure the necessary standards of education and training which lead to membership
  • ensure members are kept abreast of emerging issues affecting them and the industry as a whole 
  • support the education of trainees 
  • encourage and provide continue professional development 
  • maintain standards and methods of procedure 
  • uphold ethical standards of practice and code of conduct 
  • encourage and support appropriate research 
  • represent the profession at government, industry and public forums lobby for and encourage economic use of building and construction resources 
  • produce policies and position statements on professional and industry matters. 
Membership is open to Quantity Surveyors, Building or Construction Economists, Cost Engineers, Cost Estimators and others with appropriate degrees/qualifications and work experience. Students and other related professionals may also be eligible for membership.
