AIQS welcomes a new president

Mark Chappe FAIQS, CQS has been elected President of The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) taking over from Professor Anthony Mills FAIQS, CQS.

Mark was previously Senior Vice President of AIQS.

“I am extremely honoured, proud and humbled to be elected as the President of this significant and prestigious Institute of built environment cost professionals acknowledging the responsibility that the Institute has to its members and their clients, and at the same time I am very excited at taking on the challenges that lie ahead of us.  I thank Professor Anthony Mills for his contribution as President, admirably leading the Institute over the past two years, which together with our dynamic Board, has strengthen an already strong platform created by past Presidents and the enthusiastic team at the Institute’s head office.” says Mark.

Mark has worked in the property and construction industry since 1978 and is based in Canberra, Australia.  Prior to joining Rider Levett Bucknall in Australia in 1998, Mark was a Senior Partner of a quantity surveying practice in Durban, South Africa.  In 2004, Mark became a National Director of Rider Levett Bucknall and is currently the Managing Director of the Canberra office.  Mark has been a Councillor on the ACT Chapter of AIQS since 2002 serving in various positions including that of Chapter President.  Eight years ago, he was elected to the AIQS Board of Directors as an ACT Chapter representative.  Whilst serving on the Board, he has been an active Director including chairing the current Standards Committee.  Through the Board he was elected as an Australian Trustee of the International Construction Measurement Standards coalition which he has served on for the past three years.

Mark’s broad construction and buildability knowledge within the key industry sectors across Australia enables him to provide sound, accurate, demonstrable and efficient cost advice.  One of Mark’s specialist skills is costing major sporting events such as the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, particularly costing the overlay component and assisting cities in winning their bids to host the Games.  In 2013, Mark was awarded the Allan Wylucki ACT Property Professional of the Year award by the Property Council of Australia.

Stephen Warne FAIQS, CQS has been elected Senior Vice President and Andrew Brady FAIQS, CQS has been elected Junior Vice President.  Professor Anthony Mills FAIQS, CQS will remain on the Board as Immediate Past President.
