Do you know what your career options are and how to achieve your career goals? Would you like to know how leaders identify and utilise their strengths to reach the next level?

The career opportunities for Quantity Surveyors are endless. Roles exist at Private Quantity Surveying firms, within the Public Sector, with Builders, Subcontractors and consulting with Advisory firms. Career progression can be aided by various factors including finding a niche sector, longevity with an employer or even relocating to regions lacking resources.

Targeted at members on the cusp of management we have selected a panel of Cost Management Professionals to provide insight into career options and progression techniques. Our panel members offer a variety of perspectives across potential cost management roles and career pathways, including construction estimating, quantity surveying and covering sectors such as health, sports and leisure and transport and aviation.

Light refreshments will be provided from 5.30pm.

Limited places. Please register now to avoid disappointment!

The panel will be led by Jane Northey, Conversion Lead at John Holland and a Board Member of the AIQS:

Jane Northey, Conversion Lead, John Holland

Jane has over 25 years of experience in the construction industry gained in three different countries. Her career has developed from experience working for consultants, constructors and operators, creating an understanding of the need to consider multiple perspectives. Jane began her career as a Quantity Surveyor at Slattery Australia and has since worked for Gardiner and Theobald in London, Lend Lease in Melbourne and Canberra, AECOM in New York City, Metro Trains Melbourne, AECOM in Australia with a National role before recently joining John Holland in a role broader than Cost Management.

Edna specialises in healthcare projects applying the knowledge and expertise gained from greenfield and redevelopment projects across the state.
She is currently leading the Cost Management of the Aikenhead Centre of Medical Discovery (ACMD), Ambulance Victoria Capital Program and Pathways of 144 Mental Health Beds.

David Costantin, Cost Planning Manager, John Holland

David has 24 years experience in the construction industry working both in Consulting and Builder sides. His career began as a Quantity Surveyor working at RLB across multiple industry sectors from Universities, Residential, Commercial, Manufacturing and Civic projects in Victoria. He then made the move away from Consulting and spent time working with the likes of Lendlease and Grocon in Senior and Regional Management Teams.
David recently consulted to Icon Constructions, leading the Cost Planning outcome for their successful GLM 2 PPP bid for the State Government. He recently joined John Holland as the Cost Planning Manager for VIC/SA & TAS.

Hoi Yee Chung – Associate Director – Transit Sector Lead, Buildings and Places VSAT - AECOM

Hoi Yee has over 16 years of experience in the infrastructure and transit sector both nationally and internationally. She started her career as an Environmental Engineer with AECOM Hong Kong. After working as an engineer for 5 years, she relocated to Melbourne and started afresh in Quantity Surveying.
She spent a few years as a consultant at North Projects, where her primary focus was civil infrastructure estimates. She then joined the rail operator Metro Trains Melbourne and contributed to some major projects such as the Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal and Mernda Line Extension. She is currently part of the Cost Management team at AECOM and has recently taken on the role of Transit Sector Lead for the Buildings and Places Business Line.

Tom Dean, Director - Carbon Planning, Slattery

Tom joined Slattery as a Quantity Surveyor in 2007, and now acts as Carbon Planning Director, overseeing projects nation-wide. He played a pivotal role in the development of Slattery’s Carbon Planning service, and now leads a team of specialists who assist clients with their decarbonisation goals through a cost/benefit framework.
The development of the Carbon Planning tool was a natural extension to Slattery’s service offering, as managing embodied carbon through the process of design is interlinked with cost advice. Launched in 2021, Slattery’s Carbon Planning service was the first of its kind offered in Australia, which received endorsement by the GBCA and the Property Council of Australia.
