We’re not diving deep into technical information - this webinar will instead focus on real stories, honest reflections, and the ups and downs of starting afresh in a new country.
From getting the paperwork organised and finding your first job, to figuring out the Aussie work culture and dealing with homesickness, our panellists have been through it all. They'll share what helped them, what caught them off guard, and what they wish they knew before boarding that plane.

About the speaker:
Syidah Arnold FAIQS, CQS
Syidah is a Director at Rider Levett Bucknall with over 19 years of experience in the construction industry, spanning quantity surveying, architecture and digital transformation.
Originally from Malaysia and now based in Australia, Syidah blends her technical background with a passion for innovation, helping teams embrace digital tools and AI to work smarter, not harder. Having navigated the journey of starting fresh in a new country, she brings both professional insights and lived experience to this panel.
Joe Wong FAIQS, CQS
Joe Wong brings over 20 years of experience in delivering major infrastructure, commercial, and residential projects across Australia.
In senior and management roles, Joe has successfully led multidisciplinary teams and worked closely with stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. His expertise encompasses cost management, risk assessment, and client-side project management, as well as a strong proficiency in digital tools such as BIM and data analytics.
As an AIQS Board Director, Joe is passionate about mentoring the next generation of quantity surveyors and elevating the profile of the profession within the broader construction industry.
Dao Ping Ting MAIQS, CQS
Ping is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with 20 years of experience across both pre-contract and post-contract phases. She is highly proficient in delivering end-to-end Quantity Surveying services from feasibility through to project completion. Her expertise includes preparing feasibility budgets, detailed cost estimates, Bills of Quantities, tender evaluations, financier’s initial verification and reporting, as well as progress claim and variation assessments.
