Webinar: Design Economics, Cost Planning and Risk Management (Recording Option)

7:30pm Thursday, 16 January 2025
Recorded Webinar

Quantity Surveyors can make important contributions to the effective Management of Design costs by providing realistic early cost advice planning on how budgets should be allocated to the various elements of the Project. This pre-contract cost control process spreads across inception through the design completion and contract award of a project.  As a Quantity Surveyor, it is important to know how to assess and develop a variable cost estimate from the pre-concept design stage.

The Quantity Surveyor’s knowledge of construction technology and construction economics are key to a successful cost plan. The Quantity Surveyor needs a good understanding of methods of estimation at each design development stage depending upon the nature of the development.

The aim of this CPD webinar is to provide an understanding of:

  • Overall ideas of pre-construction cost planning / methods used for budget estimation / and step-by-step development of estimation within the concept of cost planning.
  • How to prepare a cost estimate with minimal details / use of database and BCIS format / and the importance of elemental cost planning.
  • Terminology and definitions important for AIQS students and candidates.
  • The nature of cost planning and estimation in the Middle East (especially in the UAE).
