WLC is a critical financial assessment tool used by Quantity Surveyors (QS) to evaluate the total cost of an asset over its lifespan. Unlike traditional cost analysis, which focuses on initial capital expenditure, WLC considers acquisition, operation, maintenance and disposal costs to achieve long-term value for money.

For Quantity Surveyors, WLC serves as both a comparative tool for evaluating alternative designs and materials and a management tool for ongoing financial planning. By integrating WLC into project decision-making, QS professionals can enhance cost certainty, optimise budgets, and contribute to the sustainability and efficiency of built assets.

The global construction industry is currently very inefficient in assessing the capital costs and carbon footprint of proposed projects during the pre-construction phase. 

In this session, we propose the implementation of a new automation tool that enables construction projects to leverage the full benefits of building information modeling in combination with artificial intelligence techniques for Cost and Carbon estimates.
