About Us

We are an energetic company founded on the need for independent professionals to provide sound cost advice before, during and after construction. MQS make a conscious effort to challenge conventional quantity surveying services to ensure we add value to every project.

Accurately predicting construction costs needs more than spreadsheets and pricing databases and requires an understanding of project quality, program, and procurement methodology; this ‘whole building’ approach is the foundation of all MQS services.

We like to consider ourselves as Construction financial problem solvers. Our service offerings go beyond the initial project cost report and include a value management portion where we assist our client’s in aligning scope and budget while maximizing value for money, therefore giving our clients full transparency throughout the design process.

Cost Planning, Estimating and Control: We are experienced in all facets of cost planning, estimating and control and are expertly placed to develop cost plans and prepare concept plans as well as preconstruction cost estimates. We can monitor and review the design at various stages to ensure the project can be built within the nominated construction budget. Our Cost Plans, particularly at the early stages of design, are a malleable tool that can be adjusted and modified to suit each individual project, while remaining accurate to current market conditions.

Tender/Contract Evaluation and Assistance: Determining the builder or contractor that represents the best value is not always as easy as looking at the bottom line. Each builder or contractor may include or exclude different elements which impact on their pricing. The lowest price does not always represent the best value. We can review all tenders received and prepare tender reports with recommendations, assist as required in detailed assessment and recommendations during any negotiations as well as provide a report that compares planned, revised and actual expenditure for the project.

Contract Administration and Project Management: We can assess each progress claim (monthly or staged) to ensure the claimed amount aligns with the work completed by conducting site visits. We can also assess variation claims submitted by the builder and produce project reports detailing the costs of works complete to date. We can help you negotiate any variations that arise. Depending on the contractual clauses, variations may be permitted but any impact on cost and time needs to be negotiated. Engaging MQS to help you negotiate the costs upfront will help your project conform to the negotiated project timeline. We can help you evaluate the quantity and costs of materials required, the labour hours needed, the accuracy of progress payments and much more.

Expert Witness, Mediation and Dispute Resolution: Building can be complex and unfortunately, disputes can arise. Through our expert witness, mediation and dispute resolution services we offer an independent and unbiased opinion which can assist in or avoid the need for legal proceedings.
