Webinar: From Numbers to Strategy: Demystifying Estimating and Cost Planning for Infrastructure Projects

Estimating and cost planning are essential components for infrastructure projects.

Estimating involves predicting the likely cost of a project based on design information available at defined stages of design development. Estimates are typically used for budgeting and tendering purposes. This process focuses on individual cost components and is often conducted as a one-time calculation.

In contrast, cost planning is a dynamic, continuous process that supports design decisions and cost control throughout the project lifecycle. It helps ensure the project remains within budget by comparing actual costs against projections and adjusting accordingly.

Led by experienced experts, this webinar offers attendees up-to-date knowledge that will equip them to deliver accurate estimates and implement effective cost planning strategies in real-world projects.

Webinar: Dispute Avoidance – How and Why Disputes Develop

When one searches ‘common causes of construction disputes’ one invariably finds posts from law firms with issues like ‘poorly drafted contracts’, ‘scope creep’, and ‘poor contract administration’, and the number one piece of advice is ‘engage legal experts’. But why is this?

Everything one needs to manage and resolve the common causes of dispute is within the QS’s toolbox, it just requires one to take ownership before the issue develops into full dispute. This webinar will provide examples of how this can be done.

Join this webinar to find out how and why disputes develop. The webinar will explore ways to manage and align expectations to promote early resolution, by utilising quantity surveying skills such as change management, risk assessment and negotiation.

Webinar - 19 August, 2025

Webinar: Unlocking BIM for Cost Professionals

Designed for professionals in the construction industry, this webinar will provide a complete walkthrough of essential BIM concepts and techniques that can transform your estimating process.

Before commencing measurement, the session will highlight the importance of preparing a Data Extraction Matrix, a vital step to identify where specific measurement information will come from, whether within the model or from external sources. The webinar will then cover key features such as BIM Templates and Object Measurement for automating dimensioning and improving efficiency, Model Maps for organising and visualising model elements effectively, and BIM Revisions to support accurate and seamless change management. To conclude, there will be a demonstration of how BIM data can be integrated with Power BI, offering a visual example of interactive dashboards and reporting outputs for enhanced decision-making and communication.

The intention behind this webinar is to provide you with insights that will help you to enhance accuracy and maintain control over your estimates.

Webinar: Top Ways to Minimise Financial Risk on a Construction Project

This presentation will explore the financial risks that commonly affect construction projects with the aim to provide a framework for identifying these risks and managing them at different stages.

Our presenters, Suzy Lee and Peter Watt, will highlight that many of these risks arise well before construction begins—through scope uncertainties, consultant or contractor selection, site limitations, authority requirements, and design process. As the project moves into construction, financial risks shift to challenges such as cost escalations, subcontractor performance, supply chain constraints, and project delays. Suzy and Peter will look at how to identify and manage or resolve these risks, emphasising the importance of recognising where and how they emerge.

This session encourages quantity surveyors and project professionals to take a proactive role in uncovering potential financial exposures that could impact not only cost but also time and delivery. It reinforces the value of structured analysis, early-stage input, and collaboration across disciplines to ensure critical risks are visible before they escalate. The presentation aims to enhance awareness, sharpen professional judgment, and empower attendees with the insights needed to better understand the financial risk landscape in construction projects.
