The Tax Practitioners Board

The Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) is a national body responsible for the registration and regulation of tax agents, BAS agents and tax (financial) advisors (collectively referred to as ‘tax practitioners’). The TPB is also responsible for ensuring compliance with the Tax Agent Services Act 2009, including the code of professional conduct. AIQS members who are registered through the TPB’s ‘recognised professional associations’ route must be a Voting Member of AIQS (Member/Fellow/Life Fellow grades).

Professional Indemnity (PI) Insurance Requirements for Registered Tax and BAS Agents

Professional indemnity (PI) insurance is a consumer protection mechanism to compensate your clients in the event they suffer loss due to an act, error or omission as a result of tax agent services (which include BAS and tax (financial) advice services) you provide.

All tax practitioners must maintain PI insurance that meets the TPB’s requirements in order to be registered and continue registration with the TPB.

Continuing Professional Education (CPE)

Complying with the TPB’s CPE requirements will assist you to maintain knowledge and skills relevant to the tax agent services you provide, which is one of your obligations under their Code of Professional Conduct.
