Quantity surveying competencies are the skills required by quantity surveyors to provide professional services. Those applying for AIQS membership (Member and Fellow grades) are required to have their competencies assessed in an Assessment of Professional Competence Interview (APC).
Types of Competencies
There are three types of competencies:
Core Competencies
The required skills of a competent quantity surveyor, as identified by AIQS. Member applicants are required to demonstrate their understanding of a minimum of four core competencies in their APC.
Specialist Competencies
Skills gained in areas akin to quantity surveying that may become primary business functions. The specialist competencies are optional and might only be acquired by those working in a specific area or on specific projects.
Support Competencies
Core units that involve extensive knowledge appropriate to the discipline, which assist in the execution of typical work.
Members are required to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and understanding across a minimum of eight competency units, where at least four units are core competencies (excluding support competencies).

Competency Standards
